Okay serious question - can a show still be binge worthy if the first 3 episodes are slow?

My friend Mark from work told me he gave up on Breaking Bad after 2 episodes and I almost dropped him as a friend lol. But it got me thinking. Like on one hand some of the best shows ever take time to build. On the other hand there are so many shows now that I dont have patience for a slow start. Where do you draw the line? How many episodes do you give a show before you bail?

Breaking Bad is actually the perfect example. You gotta give a show at least 5 episodes unless it's really awful. The first three are usually setup, introducing characters and the world. If by episode 4 or 5 theres still no hook or the plot hasn't moved anywhere, then it's probably not worth your time.

Nah, I disagree. Breaking Bad hooked me from the first episode because of that crazy tension with the RV and the desert. Five episodes is way too many to waste on a show that's not grabbing you.

Ngl that's wild, who waits five episodes for a show to get good?
