Rewatched Breaking Bad after 5 years and noticed something wild
I first binged Breaking Bad back in 2018 and thought Walt was just a genius gone bad. Watching it again this month, I realized how many small clues about his ego were there from episode 1. Did anyone else catch how early his pride starts messing things up?

Oh wow, yes, I saw this article the other day breaking down how Walt's ego was basically the whole plot from the start. It talked about the very first episode when he turns down Elliot's job offer at Gray Matter, and that pride just snowballs into everything. Like, even the way he treats his students or his son, he always has to be the smartest guy in the room. It’s crazy how obvious it is on a rewatch, especially with Skyler just trying to keep the family together while he's busy burning it all down for his own satisfaction.

That part about him turning down Elliot's offer really hits home. I read somewhere that the creators said Walt's decision there was the moment he chose pride over his family's wellbeing, even before the cancer diagnosis. It makes you wonder how different everything would have been if he'd just swallowed his ego for five minutes.

The pride was always the real villain of the show, not the cancer.
