Showerthought: Rewatching The Wire 15 years later hits different
Binged it last week after not touching it since 2008. I caught so many details about the dock workers season that went right over my head back then. Anyone else find old shows land harder now that you're older?

Nah, I kinda disagree. The Wire was dark enough the first time around. Don't need life experience to make it hit harder, you know? Just makes you realize how nothing really changed since then.

Wait, you're saying NOTHING has changed? Bro, have you seen the way they overhauled the drug laws in Baltimore since 2015? I swear I read a report about how the city shut down the open-air markets on the corners, moved the dealing to phones and apps. That's a MASSIVE change from the season 4 era where Bodie was holding down a whole corner. And the whole surveillance thing with digital tracking now makes Stringer Bell's burner phone strategy look like a JOKE. I feel like you're dead wrong on "nothing changed" when the whole game got digitized and locked down.

So @rodriguez.felix, how do you square the whole "got digitized and locked down" thing with the fact that the same kids are still ending up dead or locked up for life? Like, sure the methods changed but the end result for the corner boys like Bodie is still the same. I mean the wiretaps in season 2 were already going after the drug dealers through their phones, so shifting to apps just feels like the game adapting not really changing the outcome.
