Went back to watch an old show from 2008 and the quality was rough

I pulled up an old sci-fi series I loved back in college, I think it aired around 2008. The DVD set I bought looked like it was filmed through a screen door, all grainy and dark. I spent half the first episode squinting at the screen before I realized my eyes just aren't used to that low-resolution stuff anymore. Has anyone else tried rewatching an old favorite and felt like the picture quality ruined the whole vibe?

Feel you on this. I tried watching the original Star Trek series from the 60s on a streaming site last year and it looked like someone smeared vaseline on the camera lens. Had to stop after twenty minutes cause my eyes were actually hurting from trying to focus. It's wild how quickly we got used to everything being crystal clear.
