Am I the only one who dropped $220 on a cheap belt grinder and now I can't go back?
Bought a 1x30 belt grinder off a guy in Dayton for $220 about 6 weeks ago and it has completely changed how I clean up my knife blanks. Before that I was doing everything with files and a sanding block, which worked fine but ate up my whole Saturday. Now I can grind a bevel in like 15 minutes and my plunge lines actually look straight for once. Only problem is the motor bogs down if I push too hard, so I have to baby it. Did anyone else start on a cheap setup like this, and how long before you outgrew it?
Man this is the same thing that happened to me with a cheap table saw, you suffer through the hand tool version forever then one day a cheap power tool shows up and you're like why did I wait so long. The motor bogging thing is just part of the deal with the budget stuff, you learn to let the belt do the work instead of your arms. Tbh you'll probably ride that thing for a year or two before the tracking and the bogging get old enough to bother you.
