Coal vs. propane for my first demo, propane won by a mile
I had to pick between setting up a coal forge or dragging out my propane rig for a demo at the county fair last month. Coal is cheaper but the smoke and cleanup with a crowd just seemed like a hassle, so I went propane. It lit fast, held temp steady for 3 hours of leaf key demos, and nobody got smoky eyes. Has anyone else switched to propane for public events and never looked back?

Ha, yeah propane just works better when you're trying to show people a good time instead of babysitting a fire.

Man, that's the thing though... people always say propane is easier but have you actually tried getting a good smoky flavor with it? Like sure it's convenient but there's gotta be a reason so many backyard guys still swear by charcoal for the taste. Are you really telling me the flavor difference doesn't matter when you've got a crowd over? I just don't get how anyone can call it "better" when you're losing that whole campfire vibe...
