Had the worst day at the anvil last Tuesday

I was working on a set of dinner knives for a customer, and everything went wrong from the start. My coal forge took forever to get up to heat, then my hammer handle split right in the middle of a heavy draw out. Broke two blades trying to fix a twist pattern that just wouldnt line up (totally my fault for rushing). Ended up scrapping about 8 hours of work and $30 in steel. Anyone else ever have a day where the metal just fights back?

My buddy had a similar meltdown last month working on a fire poker. He got the steel way too hot and it started scaling real bad, then his anvil stand wobbled and he messed up the twist. He said he just turned off the forge and went inside to watch TV for the rest of the day.

300 bucks worth of steel and he just walked away? Sounds more like he wanted an excuse to quit for the day honestly. I've screwed up plenty of projects way worse than a wonky twist and still finished them. Unless his anvil literally tipped over and dumped the whole thing on the ground, that's just a normal Tuesday in a shop. River320's buddy must have some real patience issues if a little scale and a wobble sent him to the couch lol.
