Hit exactly 500 knives made this morning and it felt weird
I was cleaning up my forge space and counted all my past work logs. The total came to 500 finished blades, not counting practice pieces or failures. That number really got me thinking. Part of me feels proud of the skill built over time, but another part wonders if focusing on quantity like that misses the point of the craft. Do you guys ever track your total pieces, or do you think it's better to just focus on making the next one the best it can be?

Consider the number as a map of your progress, not just a score. Each of those 500 blades taught you something different, a specific lesson on steel or handle fit. The total shows you've had 500 chances to learn, which is a resource no beginner has.

But what if you learned the wrong thing 500 times? Bad habits get real deep when you repeat them that much.

Morgan898 has a point about learning, but 500 is just a number. I've seen guys chase counts and their work gets sloppy because they're rushing. The real goal should always be that next perfect blade, not the last one you added to a pile.
