Overheard a guy at the scrap yard say 'anvil prices are getting ridiculous' and it got me thinking
I was dropping off some old brake rotors last Tuesday and this older fella was loading up a beat up anvil he bought for 2 bucks a pound. He said he remembers when you could find them for 50 cents a pound easy. Now everyone thinks their rusty old anvil is worth a fortune just because they saw one sell on eBay for 500. Has anyone else noticed sellers asking crazy prices for anvils with bad edges or missing horns? What do you think is a fair price per pound these days?

I saw a YouTube blacksmith say the days of cheap anvils are long gone, people really are asking crazy prices now.

Honestly, I bet part of it is just people seeing those prices online and thinking their rusty old anvil is worth gold.

Does anyone remember when anvils were basically just scrap metal? I snagged a 150lb Fisher for like 40 bucks at a farm auction back in the late 90s (had to weld a tiny crack in the base). It sat in my garage for years before I realized what I had, now people ask if I'd sell it and I just laugh - told one guy the price would start at 'how much is your car worth'.
