PSA: My new $80 forge lining is already paying for itself

I finally bit the bullet and replaced the old, crumbly firebrick in my homemade forge with a proper ceramic wool blanket and rigidizer. The material cost about eighty bucks total... but my propane use has dropped by almost a third already. It heats up so much faster and holds the heat way better. Anyone else made a small upgrade that had a bigger impact than you expected?

Honestly, it's just a forge lining. It's not like you invented a new kind of steel. People get way too excited about basic gear upgrades. I've seen guys spend a fortune on the "right" refractory only to still make the same wobbly knives. The real skill is in the hands, not the insulation. A third less propane? That just means you were wasting a ton of heat before with your old crumbly setup.

My forge upgrade was a total game changer too.

Yeah, it's wild how one small upgrade can make everything else click into place. Makes you wonder what else we're putting up with that just needs a little fix.
