Tried to forge a simple hook last week, ended up with a metal pretzel
Was in my garage shop working on some basic S-hooks for a friend's garden. Got distracted by a text, looked back at the forge, and somehow managed to twist the hot steel into a perfect, crispy-looking pretzel shape. My wife walked in, pointed at it, and said, 'Honey, I think your anvil is hungry.' Had to start over completely. Anyone have tips for staying focused when you're just doing repetitive forging work?

Hah, that's actually a pretty cool happy accident! Maybe you should start a line of decorative metal pretzels for gardens. What do you do to snap back into focus after a distraction?

Remember that guy who tried to make a bird feeder from an old colander? My friend saw him out there just staring at it for like twenty minutes after he finished. He said he had to go wash all his garden tools by hand, really slowly. Something about the cold water and the simple task just reset his brain. He came back and saw it was actually a terrible bird feeder, but a great planter for strawberries.
