Watched my anvil stand buckle after 4 years of heavy use

I was working on a 50 pound blade blank last night when the whole thing tilted sideways nearly threw me into the forge. Turns out the 2x6 cross braces I bolted in 2021 had dry rotted from standing in a damp shop corner. Has anyone else dealt with their main support giving out mid swing?

Ain't it wild how the stuff you trust the most is usually the first thing to fail on you? Reminds me how even the most solid looking things can crack when they've been neglected in the background.

Oh man, @riley_miller25 you just described my entire life. I once trusted my old car's brakes so much I never got them checked, and wouldn't you know it, they gave out at a stoplight. I stood there like a total fool, pretending I was just enjoying the view while waiting for help. It's like how I trust my phone to last all day, and bam, 3 o'clock hits and it's dead. Guess we all have a few cracks we don't see coming, right?
