A guy at the Grand Rapids skate park said my shots were blurry because I was leaning back, not because of my cheap lens
I shoot my kid skating most weekends and kept blaming my old kit lens for how soft everything looked. Back in April a guy sitting on a bench near the half pipe asked to see my camera and told me I was leaning my whole body back when I pressed the shutter. He said I was rocking maybe an inch every time, which is plenty to smear a subject moving 15 mph. I tried planting my feet and leaning slightly forward into the shot instead. Same lens, same park, and my keepers went from like 3 out of 10 to 7 out of 10 that same afternoon. Nobody ever told me body position mattered that much, I thought it was all shutter speed and gear. Anyone else get wrecked by something this basic?
I always figured blurry shots were 100% about shutter speed or cheap glass, never once thought about what my body was doing. Had a buddy tell me something similar when I was shooting my kid's soccer games and I blew it off at first. Tried standing still and leaning into it and my hit rate jumped too, kinda wild how much that tiny rock messes things up.
