Guy at the Grand Canyon overlook showed me why all my sunset shots came out blurry
Last month I was at Mather Point in Arizona trying to get a shot of the canyon at sunset and every single picture came out soft. A guy standing next to me with a little tripod asked if I was holding my breath when I pressed the shutter, and I said yeah, isn't that what you're supposed to do? He laughed and said no, that just makes it worse, because your body shakes when you finally let it out. He showed me how to plant my elbows on the railing, tap the screen to focus, then squeeze the button slow like a trigger instead of jabbing it. I took about 40 shots his way and 38 of them were sharp, versus maybe 5 out of 40 before. Has anyone else been told the breath holding thing is actually wrong? I feel like I've been doing it for years.
