The foggy pier shot that exposed my phone camera lie

Last month I went to Bodega Bay to grab some moody pier photos at sunrise. My phone said it had night mode and shake fix, so I trusted it and snapped a bunch without bracing. Got home and every single one was blurred like a wet smear, couldn't even make out the railings. Turns out the auto mode was choosing a slower shutter than I thought, and my hands weren't steady enough. Anyone else get burned by trusting their phone's claims instead of using a mini tripod or leaning on something solid?

Wait, you mean those "steady shot" claims on the spec sheet are actually just marketing fluff? I used to think my phone could handle anything, but after a blurry mess at a lighthouse last spring, I'm totally with you. Now I brace against anything solid or just accept the smudge.
