Hot take: Treating every game night like a tournament is a mistake
Everyone acts like you need to win at all costs, but it just burns people out. We lost two regulars after a brutal session where someone tracked every resource for three hours straight.

But is it really that big of a deal?

Oh please, as @valfisher said, after a 30-minute rules fight that's the hardest part of my day.

Totally, and @kais13, it becomes a big deal when fun turns into stress. Tracking every move for hours makes people feel like they're at work, not hanging out. We had a friend who quit after a game where someone argued rules for 30 minutes straight. Who wants to relax after that kind of night?

How competitive is too competitive? I used to keep a score sheet for casual nights because I thought it kept things fair. Then I noticed people were making excuses not to play, and I realized my need to track every point was killing the vibe. Now we just play loose and it's a totally different, better night.
