I finally saw the hype around heavy euro games after a 6-hour session at my local shop

Played Gaia Project with a group of strangers last Friday. Took until hour 4 to click, but now I get why people plan weekends around these games.

Oh, I feel you so much on this - those first few hours can be brutal but then it's like a light switch flips.

Oh man, I gotta respectfully disagree here! I've played Gaia Project a few times and honestly, it never clicked for me. Those first hours are rough and by hour 4 I'm usually just going through the motions waiting for it to end. I get why people like the deep strategy and planning, but six hours feels like a really long time for a single game. I'd rather play three shorter games and get more variety in my night. Different strokes for different folks I guess, but I'll take something like Concordia or Puerto Rico over the heavy weight stuff any day.

So is the light switch flipping at hour 4 or hour 5? @abbyg60 asking for a friend who's been staring at the board for 45 minutes trying to figure out which planet to colonize. I totally get it though, I'd rather play three rounds of Puerto Rico where I actually feel like I accomplished something instead of one marathon where I'm just hoping someone ends it already. At least in Concordia the game is over before my second drink.
