Left a bag of meeples in my car on a hot day and they warped into abstract shapes

I was at a picnic in Austin last Saturday and brought my copy of Carcassonne to play with friends after lunch. Forgot the bag of wooden meeples was sitting on the passenger seat in direct sun for like 4 hours. When I opened the box later at home, half the meeples had curled edges and two were bent into little arches. Anyone else ever accidentally heat-warped their game pieces and had to replace them from a bits seller?

Oh man, I've heard about this happening to other folks on the BoardGameGeek forums. Someone posted about leaving their copy of The Settlers of Catan in a trunk during a heat wave, and the roads tiles came out looking like potato chips. I think the wood absorbs moisture and then when it bakes in the sun it dries out and contracts unevenly. Your best bet is probably hitting up The Game Crafter or a similar bits seller online, I've seen them sell replacement meeple packs for cheap.

Yeah @averymartin nailed it, heat warps wood pieces bad.

My brother left a wooden chess set in his car during a summer road trip and the rooks started looking like they were leaning over... it was kinda funny but also sad because that set was from our granddad. He tried steaming them back into shape but they never sat flat again. Just turned into wobbly little soldiers.
