My buddy convinced me to try a legacy game after I swore them off for years

I used to think legacy games were just a cash grab since you destroy cards and can't replay them. Then my friend brought over Risk Legacy last summer and insisted we give it a shot. After 5 sessions I was hooked watching the board permanently change with sticker placements and rule additions. It felt like we were building our own inside story that no one else would ever have. Has anyone else been surprised by a game type they thought they'd hate?

but you can't replay them" - that's exactly what I said to my wife when she bought Pandemic Legacy. I was so ready to hate it. But honestly, the not knowing what's in the next box is what got me. Every session felt like a secret we were unlocking together, not just another game night. And yeah, you can't replay it, but I actually love that we have this one specific story that belongs to our group. We still joke about the time our medic got the stupid "infection" scar and we had to rebuild the whole strategy around it. Totally worth losing the replayability, at least for that one experience.

Wait, your medic got a permanent scar from an infection? How did that even happen? I played through the whole thing and I swear we never saw that rule come up. @sarah_mason are you sure you didn't just make that up to mess with people? Because I'm going to be really annoyed if my group missed a whole mechanic like that. That sounds like the kind of thing that would have totally changed how we played.
