My roommate has started labeling all our game boxes with color-coded stickers

I'm not sure if this is genius or completely over the top.

Man, my buddy tried something like this with his board game collection last year. He spent a whole weekend putting little colored dots on the box spines to show how many players each game worked for. It looked okay at first, but then he added more colors for how long games took, and another for complexity. Ended up with boxes covered in so many dots it just looked messy. Honestly, we spent more time trying to remember his color code than just reading the box.

Have you told him to stick to just one or two categories? I tried color coding my own games and it became a mess fast. Now I just put a small note on the box edge for player count and keep it simple. Saves everyone the headache of decoding a rainbow system.

Color-coding every game box seems like a lot of work for something we only play on weekends. @scott.drew has a point about it becoming a mess fast (I tried something similar and gave up after a week). It's just board games, not a library system. If you need to know player count or time, just peek at the box. All those stickers might even hurt the box art over time. Really, is it that serious?
