Overheard a guy at my local game store say he only plays games with zero randomness and it made me rethink my whole collection

I've got about 30 games on my shelf and about 20 of them have dice or card draws, so should I be looking for more euro-style deterministic games or am I overthinking what makes a game fun?

Man I really wouldn't sweat this. I've got like 40 games and half of them have dice or some kind of luck element and I still have fun every time we play. That guy at your store sounds like he's taking board games way too seriously. Games are supposed to be about hanging out with friends, making jokes when you roll a 1, and having a good time not about proving who's the smartest person at the table. Sure deterministic euros have their place but so does the chaos of a bad dice roll that makes everyone laugh. Honestly if you're having fun with your collection then you're already winning. Don't let some random dude's opinion make you second guess your own enjoyment.

Had a bud who got so mad at a bad dice roll in Dead of Winter he flipped the whole table.
