Pro tip: start with a 10 minute timer for setup instead of rushing through rules

Used to hate teaching new games cuz I'd ramble forever and lose people. Last week I set a 10 minute timer for setup and told everyone we'd figure the rules as we go. Worked way better for a game like Wingspan, nobody felt bored.

Man you're making it sound like teaching board games is some kind of stressful life event lol. Its just sitting around a table with snacks and cards.

Totally agree with the "vibes chill" part lol. That Catan story is wild though, it really shows how even simple games can hit people in weird ways. The timer trick works because it takes the pressure off and lets everyone just get comfortable with the pieces first.

Timer trick works great but so does letting one person read the rules aloud while others set up.

@mason.brian you say that but I had a friend literally break down crying during a game of Catan once cuz he thought the robber was personally attacking him. Ever since then I do the timer thing too, really helps keep the vibes chill.
