Vent: I used to think buying every expansion was the only way to be a real board game geek
For years, I'd grab every expansion for games like Terraforming Mars or Wingspan the day it came out, no questions asked (my shelf of shame was huge). The tipping point was last game night, when my friend Jake flat out said, 'This game is worse now, we added too much stuff.' We were playing with three expansions for a game that was fine on its own, and it took over three hours for a simple teach. I realized I was collecting boxes, not better game nights. I was just chasing the 'complete set' feeling instead of asking if the game was actually more fun. Now I'm selling off half my unplayed expansions. Has anyone else had a game totally ruined by adding everything at once?

Collecting boxes, not better game nights" is a perfect way to put it. I was the same until a game of Catan with every expansion became a four-hour slog.

Catan with every expansion is a special kind of pain, @reese124.

Remember my buddy who insisted we play with all his Catan stuff? We set up the board and it took over his whole dining table. Two hours in, we were still just trying to figure out the turn order for the stupid boats. He hasn't asked to play it since.
