Bought a $200 digital level for pipe alignment and it paid for itself on the first steam drum install.
Had to line up a 40-foot header in less than an hour last Tuesday, that thing saved me from a whole day of rework and I didn't even have to break out the transit, has anyone else found one specific tool that just clicks with your workflow?

Man, 200 bucks for a level? That thing better pour my coffee too. I've got a 30 dollar magnetic one from the hardware store that's been fine for years. Unless you're building a rocket ship, seems like a lot of hype for a stick with a bubble.

That "rocket ship" comment hits the nail on the head haha. I swear we've all gotten brainwashed into thinking expensive tools automatically mean better results when really it's just clever marketing. It's the same story with kitchen knives or fancy headphones - most of us just need something that works, not something that costs more than our car payment.

The thing better pour my coffee too" - that's funny but come on, it's a level. You line up pipes, not espresso shots. I get that $200 feels steep for a bubble stick, but have you actually tried working with a cheap one on a big header? The magnets shift, the glass fogs up, and after five years of dropping it off ladders it's reading about as straight as my uncle after a six pack. If you're just hanging shelf brackets or setting fence posts, sure, save your money. But for a 40-foot steam drum alignment where being off by 1/16th means the whole flange pattern is trash, I'd rather have a tool I trust than one that's just cheap.
