Grit bucket size is overrated, here's why I stopped filling mine to the rim
I used to pile my grit bucket to the top like everyone else on this site swears by. On a job at a refinery in Gary, that overloaded bucket tipped off a scaffold and dumped 40 pounds of grit onto the foreman's truck. I run mine at 3/4 full now, and it handles way better. Anyone else cut back on bucket fill and get better results?

A 3/4 fill is the sweet spot, honestly. When it's packed to the rim, the whole rig gets top heavy and the balance throws off every swing you make, especially if you're on a ladder or a scaffold. You don't need that much extra grit to get the job done, and the spill risk just isn't worth it. The real trick is to check how the bucket sits on the hook before you even lift it, a full one will tilt on you every time. I've had a near miss myself with a half spilled load over a customer's driveway, so I get where you're coming from. Plus, you can always just refill the thing more often, it beats cleaning up a mess or paying for a windshield.

@the_lucas nailed it. Full bucket just tips easier, that's basic physics.
