Guy at the supply house in Gary said he's been chasing the same 3/4 inch leak since March, and I felt that in my bones
I was standing in line behind this older welder last Thursday and he was telling the counter guy he'd been back to the same mud drum fitting three times, and every time it held for a day then started weeping again. I laughed at first, then realized I've got a tube sheet joint I keep telling myself is fine because the drip is slow enough to wipe up with a rag at the end of shift. How long do you let a small leak ride before you actually pull it apart, or am I the only one playing that game?
Three times on the same fitting and it still weeps? That's not a leak anymore, that's a RELATIONSHIP. At some point you gotta ask yourself if you're fixing it or just dating it. My rule of thumb is if I'm wiping the same drip more than twice a week, the rag is telling me something my pride won't. Slow leaks don't get better, they just wait until you're not looking and turn into a puddle with your name on it. Pull it apart, eat the downtime, and stop lying to yourself with that rag.
