Hit 1000 feet of weld on a single storage tank and it finally clicked why the old guys take their time

After I hit 1000 feet of weld on one storage tank last week, I finally understood why the old timers always preached patience instead of speed, has anyone else had that moment where a big number made you slow down?

Having the math hit you like that changes everything. It's not about being slow, it's about realizing every minute of rushing can cost you hours of fixing later.

Kinda gotta disagree with the math part. It's not really about doing the math on how many feet. It's more about feeling the weight of the repetition in your arms and back. When you're on foot 800, every bead starts looking the same and your brain just checks out. That's when you learn to slow down so you don't make a stupid mistake you'll have to grind out later.
