My plasma cutter decided to die mid job yesterday in Gary
I was halfway through cutting a 3/8 inch plate on a boiler repair in Gary yesterday when my Hypertherm just stopped mid cut no warning lights or anything. Had to borrow a grinder from a guy on site to finish the job and it took me twice as long. Has anyone else had a cutter just quit on them like that and found a fix that wasn't a total replacement?

Used to think it was always something major when a cutter died on me, but seeing @benclark mention the ground clamp made me realize how often we overlook the SIMPLE stuff first. I checked my ground after a similar shutdown last month and sure enough the clamp had a hairline crack that was breaking connection intermittently. Now I clean and inspect that thing every time before I fire up the machine, saves me headaches for SURE.

Check your ground clamp connection, those sometimes fail before the main unit does.

Huh, I gotta disagree with @elliotm70 on this one, ground clamps are usually fine until you drop em off a truck.
