Old air compressor finally gave out on a refinery job in Gary

My 20 year old Ingersoll Rand compressor was spitting oil for weeks before it locked up solid last Tuesday while we were prepping a feed line. I had to borrow a buddy's unit for the day and it got the job done, but it felt wrong using someone else's gear. Anyone else run older equipment until it dies, or do you swap things out on a set schedule?

You ever read one of those articles about how they don't build things like they used to? I swear that's the only reason mine lasted past the 15 year mark. My old setup was leaking air from three different spots, and I just kept patching it with tape and hose clamps, telling myself it was fine. It finally died on me mid-bolt on a Saturday, which is always how it goes. Honestly, I think running stuff till it screams is just part of the job, but it sure makes you question your choices when you're stuck on the side of a tank with a dead motor.
