Old foreman told me to always purge my lines before welding and I blew it off
Last week I was in a rush on a job over at the Marathon refinery and skipped purging a 3/4 inch stainless line. Got a nasty inclusion that took me 4 hours to grind out and redo. Has anyone else had a shortcut backfire this bad on a tight deadline?

Did you at least get paid for the redo or did the foreman make you eat it?

Honestly that foreman sounds like a piece of work. My buddy had a similar thing happen on a deck job last summer - poured the whole slab wrong because the architect's plans were off by like 4 inches. Foreman tried to pin it on him but the guy had texts proving he asked for clarification. Still ended up working a full weekend to grind it down and repour for free just to keep the peace. Tbh that kind of thing burns me up because it's never the boss's fault when mistakes happen, just the guys on the ground who gotta eat the time.

That's the thing about shortcuts (and I'm guilty of this too), they almost always cost you more time in the end. It's like how people skip reading the instructions on furniture assembly and then spend an hour fixing it.
