Saw a crew using the wrong grade of rod on a 2-inch steam line patch in Gary

They were using a 7018 on a high-pressure steam line that needed a 8018-C3 rod for the right heat tolerance (it was running at 450 psi). The weld will crack from thermal stress in a few months, I've seen it happen before. What's the best way you've found to check specs on the spot when the prints aren't clear?

Remember that time in Toledo when a whole section of pipe support just sheared off because someone used the wrong bolts? Makes you wonder if the real problem is the prints or the rush to get things done. How many times have you seen a crew just grab what's in the truck because the spec sheet is buried under coffee cups?

Ever check the actual material certs before they start burning rod?

My certs are under the coffee cups too, @the_paul.
