That inspector in Gary was right about my preheat method
Honestly, he flagged my torch pattern on a 2-inch plate last month and said I was heating a spot, not the zone, so I switched to a wider sweep and now my welds pass bend tests first try, has anyone else had to unlearn a habit that an old-timer called out on site?
My buddy had the same thing happen with his travel speed, old hand told him he was moving too fast to let the puddle tie in. Took him a few weeks to slow down but his caps quit cracking after that.
