The day I quit ignoring the smoke coming off my grinder
Last Tuesday I was grinding down a weld on a 4 inch pipe at the Anderson plant and noticed way more smoke than usual. Figured it was just the coating burning off, kept going for another 20 minutes. Then my foreman walks over and points out my grinding wheel was totally glazed over from the pressure I was putting on it. Swapped to a fresh wheel and the cut was clean in half the time with barely any smoke. Any of you guys ever glaze a wheel without realizing it?

Man I did that exact thing last month on a 2 inch stainless line at the refinery. Wasted a whole wheel and 30 mins before someone yelled at me to check it.

Used to roll my eyes at the old timers who checked every damn disc before starting. Now I get it. Ain't no shame in learning the hard way I guess.

My third job I blew through three zip discs before someone showed me the little arrow.
