The difference 6 months of proper rod storage made on our job site in Tulsa

I used to just leave my 7018 rods loose in the gang box until they got damp, and I couldn't figure out why half my welds on a tank repair last fall looked like trash. Then a older hand showed me his heated rod oven and I started keeping everything at 250 degrees like he said. Has anyone else seen a night and day change after getting strict with rod storage?

You said night and day and you're not wrong. My buddy worked a big pipe job down in Houston and he was the same way, just leaving rods wherever. Then we got sent out on a tank job and he had to grind out half his passes. Ever since he started baking them in his little garage oven he acts like it's a miracle cure.

Does that little oven fix the moisture problem or just hide it for a while?
