Unpopular opinion: stop burning your rod stubs with the flux still on
I see guys at the shop in Gary all the time tossing rod stubs into the scrap bucket with half the flux still caked on. That stuff just crumbles off and makes a mess when they get recycled. Takes two seconds to tap it off on the edge of the table before you toss it. Why do people skip this? Or am I the only one who cares about keeping the scrap clean?

Elliot the flux is actually for shielding, not just gunk - @williamb29 will back me up on that.

Man I feel you on this. I work over at the fab shop on Broadway and it drives me crazy watching guys chuck stubs with the flux still hanging on them. Just a quick tap on the bench clears it right off.

Is it just me or does the extra couple seconds of cleanup save you from having to chisel that crusty flux off the next joint? I see guys at my shop do the same thing and it drives me nuts. They'll just toss the rod in the scrap bin with a big blob of flux still stuck on the end. Then when you grab a stub out of the same bin later you have to spend extra time knocking that stuff off before you can even put it in the holder. A quick tap on the edge of the bench or the ground clamp takes zero effort and keeps everything cleaner.
