Welding 4 pipe in a tight spot, changed my whole stance after 10 years
Was cramped between a mud drum and a tube sheet at a plant in Gary, kept burning my neck. A guy suggested I switch from a left-hand carry to right-hand and tilt the stinger down 20 degrees, made the bead lay in clean and saved my jacket. Anyone else change a basic habit this late in the game?

@daniel474 same thing helped my buddy Dave after he burned a hole in his favorite hoodie. Flipped everything around.

That bit about tilting the stinger down 20 degrees is the real secret, but I found something else that helped me when I was stuck in a similar spot. Switching to a drag technique instead of a push let me keep the puddle more stable on vertical up welds, and it saved my wrists from bending at a weird angle for hours. Another thing that worked was flipping my hood to the other side, so I could lean in closer without the helmet hitting the tube sheet. Small moves like that make a big difference when you're in a tight squeeze.
