Changed my mind on chapter by chapter quoting at book club after what Dana said in the parking lot
I used to insist everyone bring at least one quote from each chapter to our Tuesday night group at Book Nook Cafe in Portland, and last week Dana told me straight up that pulling quotes out cold made her feel like she was back in ninth grade English class. She said she remembers scenes and characters, not line numbers, and rattling off passages made her freeze up instead of talk. So now I'm wondering, does your club require quotes or do you just let people react however they want?
