Convincing my book club to read sci-fi paid off in the debate.
They hated the tech stuff but loved arguing about the ethics. My quiet win for variety.

Which tech details actually changed an ethical take for your group?

Disagree on calling the tech stuff a loss. Those details are what ground the big ethical questions in something real. Ignoring them turns the whole conversation into a fluffy thought experiment.

Actually, I used to skim the tech bits too (figured they were just set dressing). But last month we read a book with mind-uploading, and the specific detail of the data lag during transfer is what made us totally flip sides on whether it was suicide or survival. That one dumb line in a manual changed the whole fight.
