Found out my book club's most hated character was based on a real person

I was reading an interview with the author of 'The Glass Fortress' in a magazine at my dentist's office. She said the annoying neighbor, Mrs. Finch, was a direct copy of her actual landlord from when she lived in Boise. That totally changed how our group saw all her scenes. We spent a whole meeting last month arguing if she was a pointless character. Has your club ever had a fact like that flip your view on a book?

Damn, did it make you like the book more or less?

My friend threw the book across the room, so I guess less.

Wow, that's actually a great point. I used to think throwing a book was a bad sign, like you hated it. But a reaction that strong means it really got to you, right? Makes me wonder if a book that gets no reaction is worse than one that makes you mad. What book was it anyway?
