Just realized my book club's 'no spoilers' rule is actually ruining our discussions
Overheard two members whispering about the ending after a meeting last week, and it hit me that we spend half the time dancing around clues instead of digging into the big twists. We spent 20 minutes arguing about a minor character's motivation because nobody wanted to say what happens to them in chapter 14... How do you all handle spoilers without killing the conversation?

Oh man, that's such a good point... I actually think the 'no spoilers' rule makes people judge books differently than they normally would. Like, last month we read a mystery where the ending was kind of weak, but since nobody could mention it we all sat there praising the setup while secretly knowing it didnt pay off. We should just have a separate spoiler night after the main discussion where everyone can finally say what they really thought without whispering in the parking lot.

That parking lot whispering thing is way too real, I've totally done that myself. Actually happened to me with a thriller we read back in March where the big twist was just... nothing. Everyone went home and blew up the group chat at midnight, it was wild. A separate spoiler night sounds perfect, maybe even just 15 minutes tacked on the end where we can all finally drop the polite act and dig into what actually worked or didnt. I love that people get to enjoy the ride without someone ruining the ending, but man, sitting on honest feelings feels like holding in a sneeze the whole time. We should pitch this to whoever runs the group, maybe use a different night so people can opt in if they want the full raw take.
