Our book club finally agreed on a book after three years of fighting

We meet at the library in Springfield every month, and for three years we could never pick a book without someone getting mad. Last week, we all voted for 'The Night Watchman' by Louise Erdrich, which was a shock. It happened because we finally used a rule where everyone brings one pick and we talk about each one for five minutes. Has your group ever tried a system like that to stop the arguing?

How do you even last three years arguing? My group would've just started throwing books at each other, lol. That's a good system though, might steal it before we get to that point.

Honestly @wells.karen, I thought that too until I saw how well it worked for my own group.

Three years of that sounds like a special kind of hell. What was the actual topic you kept fighting about, like the specific rule or project that started it? I need to know if this system works for real problems or just petty stuff.
