Our book club's whole vibe fell apart after someone called 'The Road' a 'dad book' last Thursday.

I argued that calling a book about the end of the world a 'dad book' just because it's about a father and son is a lazy take that shuts down real talk about survival and hope, so what's the most reductive hot take you've heard ruin a good book discussion?

Feel your pain, and @juliashah has a point about that chick flick thing too.

That "chick flick thing" completely changed my view. Used to roll my eyes at that label. Thought it was just about romance. But Julia's point made me realize how dismissive it is. Like, The Devil Wears Prada is called a chick flick but it's literally about workplace dynamics and ambition. That's not a "chick" thing. That's a human thing. Now I call it out when I see it.
