Overheard a debate about 'The Silent Patient' that made me realize we all read different books

One person argued the twist was obvious from page 50, while another said they were completely blindsided, which showed me we need to ask 'what page did you first suspect something?' instead of just 'did you like it?' to get a real discussion going.

Okay, "suspecting my reading comprehension" is a pretty specific worry. What was it about the text that made you doubt you were understanding it right? Like, was the wording weird, or did you just keep reading the same line over and over?

Ever have a sentence that looks fine but the meaning just won't stick? @the_elliot, that's when I start to question myself. It's not about hard words, but when a normal paragraph feels like reading a different language. My eyes move over the lines but nothing connects in my head.
