Six months ago a librarian named Deb totally changed my reading list
I was at the county library branch over on Maple Street and just grabbing random books off the new arrivals shelf. Deb walked over and asked what I liked reading for my book club discussions. I told her I mostly picked thrillers but felt stuck in a rut with the same authors. She handed me three nonfiction picks about local history and one memoir about a guy who walked the Appalachian Trail in 80 days. That one book sparked like five conversations at our next meeting. Has anyone else had a librarian or staff member totally shift your book club's direction with one suggestion?

oh come on, you're telling me one librarian's random pick completely changed your group dynamic? that's a bit much lol. i mean sure, it's a nice story and all but let's be real here. your book club was probably already open to trying new stuff and that memoir just happened to be the one that clicked. like you really think if she handed you something about local drainage systems you'd be having five conversations about it? nah man. most people in book clubs just nod along to whatever gets picked anyway. half of them probably didn't even finish the trail book but they showed up for the snacks and socializing lol. i've seen it happen way too many times where someone gives the librarian all the credit when really the group was just ready for a change. it's a feel good story but not some magical shift.
