Unpopular opinion: I was wrong about how to run our book club discussions
A member told me my 'no spoilers ever' rule was killing deeper talks, so I now allow a dedicated spoiler section after the first hour. How do other clubs handle this without ruining it for people still reading?

What took you so long to see the light? I ran my club like a spoiler-free prison for years, and our talks were so shallow we barely got past the cover art. That dedicated section is a game changer, lets people actually dig into the messy parts of the book. My old rule was so strict I think we spent a whole meeting just talking about a character's haircut.

Your strict rule probably helped people who were slow readers or busy. They could still show up without getting the story ruined. The spoiler section is great, but keeping the first part safe means no one gets left out. It's a balance between deep talk and letting everyone join in. The haircut meetings sound painful, but at least everyone was on the same page.

Talking about haircuts for an hour is a special kind of torture. The spoiler section just makes sense.
