Unpopular opinion: that $35 book light was a waste of money for my club
I bought a fancy clip-on book light for our evening discussions and it flickers so bad everyone gets annoyed. I ended up just using my phone flashlight and it works better. Anyone else find those expensive lights useless for group reading?

My cousin had a similar problem with her expensive reading lamp for her knitting circle. She bought one of those bendy neck lights that clamp onto a table, but the battery died after twenty minutes every single time. We tried swapping in different batteries and it still quit on us. She finally gave up and just sits under the overhead kitchen light now, says it casts a way better glow for seeing stitches. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones, even if they don't look as fancy. Your phone flashlight trick is probably what half the book club members are using anyway.

Heard that @robinson.hannah, those bendy lights are ALWAYS junk, kitchen lights beat fancy gadgets every time.

Honestly, my mom had the exact same issue with a bendy lamp she got for her crossword puzzles. She finally gave up after the third one stopped working and just started using the overhead light in the living room. But then she found a cheap little desktop lamp at a thrift store for like five bucks, the kind with a solid metal shade and a proper on/off switch. That thing has lasted her years and the light is way more focused and steady. So yeah, skip the gimmicky stuff and just get a simple, sturdy lamp. It's the boring stuff that actually works.
