Wasted $60 on a book club pick that was just pure fluff
My group voted to read this buzzy literary novel from last year, said it was deep and moving. I dropped $14 on the hardcover at the local shop plus another $20 on snacks for the meeting. Then I spent 6 hours slogging through 300 pages of nothing happening. The plot was just a rich lady complaining for an entire novel. Has anyone else been burned by a hyped book that had zero substance?

Bet the snacks were more memorable than that plot.

Oh come on, can a movie really be judged by its snacks, @carter.gavin? Is a plot really supposed to be some life-changing thing every time? Sometimes you just want to turn your brain off and eat popcorn.

Hold up, you dropped $20 on snacks AND $14 on a hardcover for a book about a rich lady complaining? That sounds like a total nightmare, honestly. Ngl, I would've been so mad walking out of that meeting with nothing but a stomachache.
