My book press cracked 3 months in, here's what I found
Ngl I bought a cheap cast iron press from a vendor at the Portland book fair and it held up fine until last week, then a hairline crack appeared right across the jaw plate while I was pressing a 400 page text block. I heard from a local binder that the metal was likely poured with too much chill and it was just waiting to fail under repeated stress. Has anyone else had a press crack on them after light use, and did you switch to a wood screw press or just repair it?
