My first time using paste paper went completely sideways
I was in my garage studio in Austin, trying to make a cover for a poetry collection. The paste was too thin, and it just slid right off the paper in a big, gloopy mess. I had to scrape it all off with a palette knife and start over from scratch, which took about three hours. Has anyone else had paste just refuse to cooperate like that?

Totally been there. @johnson.faith has the right idea with the test swipe, that saved me a huge mess last time.

Yeah, that "paste too thin" thing is a classic beginner trap. You want it the thickness of sour cream, not heavy cream. Next time, mix a tiny test batch and do a swipe on scrap paper first. If it runs, just stir in more dry pigment or a bit of cornstarch to thicken it up. Saves you that three hour scrape-off job.
