Showerthought: The spine on a rebinding job I did last week cracked open because I didn't let the glue dry long enough.

I was rushing to finish a 1940s novel for a client in Austin and only waited 20 minutes before casing it in, and now I have to redo the whole thing. Anyone else had a project fail because they cut corners on drying time?

Man that's rough. I've definitely been there.

Honestly, I used to think waiting 20 minutes was totally fine for glue drying. Like, who has the patience to wait an hour for bookbinding glue, right? But then I had a similar thing happen with a sketchbook I was rebinding for myself last year. The spine cracked on the first day because I didn't let the PVA dry long enough. That completely changed how I think about drying time. Now I set a timer for at least an hour and just walk away. It's annoying but way better than having to start over from scratch.

Girl, same thing happened to me with a journal I was fixing. The glue looked dry on the outside but the pages were still sliding around inside after a day. Now I set my phone timer and go make coffee or something, it's so much better than crying over a ruined project later.
